Pregnancy and Reflexology

Let Reflexology Help You to be the Best You Can Be

Pregnancy is an important time in the lives of women and their partners and Reflexology can bring many benefits to a woman and her mate and the unborn child.

Infertility

Sometimes there is some difficulty in getting pregnant and in the absence of a physical problem that may need medical attention – then Reflexology offers deep relaxation that can alleviate stress and anxiety, which, so often is the reason that a couple finds conceiving a problem. Worries about the change to your relationship, changes in lifestyle and job or career, and even the responsibility of bringing a child into the world.
Unfortunately it is really easy to fall into a “catch 22” type situation where you are worrying about not being able to get pregnant – whereas, actually, it is the worrying that is causing the body stress and the very conditions that are preventing you from conceiving. Reflexology is a wonderful therapy for positively breaking this negative cycle and will also stimulate the reproductive organs and promote normal hormonal functioning.

Pregnancy

Even when experiencing the best of pregnancies – it is normal to feel a variety of discomforts at some time during the nine months – usually such things as backache, indigestion, fatigue, fluid retention, hypertension, haemorrhoids, insomnia, nausea, dizziness etc. One of the main benefits of regular reflexology during pregnancy is the relief it will give to these aggravations and, indeed – the sooner you start having treatments, the less likely it is that, along with sensibly looking after yourself, you will be greatly troubled by any of these problems.
Reflexology works very much on the emotional level as well and it is at this special time that a mother and of course the father need to look after their emotional health. This is not only for their own sakes – but very much also for the baby growing inside mum. Babies pick up on their parent’s emotional wellbeing during pregnancy via hormones circulating in the blood and so good positive emotional as well as physical energy is needed at this time.

Having a baby is one the major passages in a women’s life and regular reflexology sessions will help in the preparation and in the delivery.

When you are having reflexology – so is your baby – and babies love it!

What about Dad?
An expectant father can sink into worries of his own, which is only natural considering the magnitude of the changes that are shortly to enter his life!
He may also be worrying about his wife’s health, about how pre-occupied she is with the pregnancy – making him feel cut-off. Reflexology can become a key part of giving dad some relaxing ‘time-out’ to de-stress and adjust positively and happily.

After the Baby has Arrived
At this busy time the mother must also think about getting her own body back into balance so that it returns to its regular metabolism and to ensure successful breast feeding. Reflexology is great for this and even three days after the birth it is a good idea to have a session to counteract the ‘baby blues’. Successful bonding with your baby is vital and babies love mum to massage and work the reflex points on their feet. Have a word with your Reflexologist about this and she/he will show you what to do.

                                                     Child Reflexology

The world for children and teenagers is not as carefree as adults might imagine. Growing up has many thrills and happiness; however there are many growing pains too. The physiological, emotional and physical turmoil we usually associate with adulthood can equally affect children through the years of growth. Children grow up very quickly in this day and age, facing issues and decisions both at home and school that would be stressful for even the most balanced adult. Reflexology can be helpful for both the physical ailments and psychological stresses that children have to deal with.

Providing reflexology treatments for your children can give them the opportunity to feel calm, happy and balanced. Through the medium of reflexology a relationship of trust can be built between therapist and child, giving them the opportunity to communicate how they feel and a chance to deal with their stresses and strains. Reflexology can also help the child to understand his/her body physically and mentally, with the therapists’ guidance.

The treatment is carried out as a usual reflexology treatment,  however it may take a little less time depending on the age of the child. Through the reflexology treatment physical ailments can be recognised and relaxation can be enhanced. Through using the relaxation techniques and putting the child at ease, an understanding and recognition of psychological issues can be identified. The therapist will also be assessing lifestyle and diet to try and aid in the presenting problems, also working with the parents to help them understand the issues and to help their children.

Hannah, the child specialist has been working with children for many years; initially through the medium of drama, which helps to build confidence in children. Once she had trained as a reflexologist, she started to work with children, helping a range of problems from M.E to behavioural problems. Hannah incorporates her drama training into the treatments if required, this helps to put the child at ease and can also help to understand any psychological stresses.

N.B . All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied to the treatments by a parent or guardian .
